What you need to apply for your Pleasure Vessel Operator Certificate of Competency (PVOC) Grade 2
The Marine Department has revised the Examination Rules. All applications submitted on or after 30 June 2025 are required to produce a Medical Fitness Certificate (Form MD818) issued by a recognized medical practitioner proving you are medically fit for operating a local vessel.
You must pass both Part A (General) and Part B (Engineering) of the PVOC2 Examination at the Institute of Professional Examination and Knowledge (PEAK).
Get an eyesight test from a registered medical practitioner or optometrist. The test covers distant vision, near vision, intermediate vision, and colour vision.
Valid for 24 months (12 months if 65 years or older)
Obtain a medical fitness certificate from a medical practitioner recognized by the Marine Department, confirming you are medically fit to operate a local vessel.
Required for all applications from 30 June 2025 onwards
Once you have all documents ready, you can submit your application electronically, in person, or by post to the Marine Department.
